ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY – When Shadowhunters returns for its second season, things are getting darker. Literally. For new showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer, one of the things they wanted to change about the show was the physical look of it.

“There were a lot of cool things that perhaps could be cooler, visual-effect wise, the look of the show,” Slavkin tells EW. “We took the rooms and we darkened them.”

And yet, that isn’t the only change the new showrunners made. “We’re character guys,” Slavkin says. “We wrote Smallville for many years and the thrill of that for us was the character and the growth and the relationships between the people. If anything, in season 2, we’re leaning more into that. Of course there’s missions and of course there’s hunting, but the yearning, the longing, the triangles, the relationships is what really turns us on.”

TVLINE – Shadowhunters doesn’t return until 2017, but based on these first-look photos from Season 2, Clary and the gang are more than ready to rumble.

Ahead of Saturday’s panel at New York Comic-Con, TVLine has an exclusive gallery of cast photos from the Freeform drama’s sophomore outing, featuring all your favorite Shadowhunters and Downworlders. (And speaking of Downworlders, Simon is starting to look real comfortable with those vampire fangs.)

Fortunately, there’s no sign of the evil Valentine in our gallery, though we promise you’ll be seeing plenty of Clary’s biological father as we head into Season 2. He does, after all, still have Jace under his control.

“We should be very worried about Jace,” former showrunner Ed Decter told TVLine following the first season finale. “As fans of the books know, he’s about to take a very dark journey.”

TWIST MAGAZINE – Spoiler Alert: if you’re not finished with Shadowhunters Season 1, stop reading or risk the spoils!

Devoted fans of the Shadowhunters TV series will all agree that Season 1 of the Freeform show took us all on a wild roller coaster ride of emotions. Relationships, loyalties, and family ties kept getting tested left and right, and we left the first season feeling confused, betrayed, and yet still hopeful.

When we caught up with actor Dominic Sherwood at the recent Freeform Upfronts in New York City, we asked for his take on these themes. He admits that he had to really work to give his character Jace an authentic back story of emotions.

“It’s really tough, I have a happy family life at home, so there’s nothing for me that I can pull from and take into the show,” he tells TWIST. “I have to really work on feeling Jace’s emotions. It’s great to be working with guys like Matt Daddario and [the actors who play] the Lightwoods, because they’re amazing and I can bounce off of them and play with these relationships with them.”

“I can feel Jace’s heartbreak because I have those relationships with those people in the show,” he shares. “It’s tough, and we just finished the season where we don’t know, did Jace leave to protect his friends and his family? Or did he leave because he wants to be with Valentine?”

Good thing we’re getting Season 2, because maybe we’ll get a few of those answers we’re dying for!

“We’re not going to really know until Season 2,” he teases. “Neither do I, by the way, they haven’t told me anything!”
